Island Command Faroes

The Færøernes command ( ISCOMFAROES ) included the charge of the autonomous Faroe Islands Danish military units. It was set up in its original form in 1961. The Faroe even not maintain their own army, their citizens are not subject to the Danish military service. Last commander was Per Starklint. As of October 31, 2012, the command was disbanded together with Grønlands command in favor of the newly formed Arktisk command ( Arctic Command ) with headquarters in Nuuk ( Greenland). In Tórshavn since the Forbindelseselement Færøerne located as military service ( junction Faroe Islands ).

Equipment

The Færøernes command had four fisheries protection vessels of Thetis class, Lynx helicopters, Challenger fishery protection aircraft and C -130J Hercules transport aircraft.

Tasks

The command oversaw the twelve- mile zone of the Faroe Islands as well as the 200-mile fishing zone and had facilities for sea rescue. It could be obtained from the Faroe Islands to support its police. In addition, the base Mjørkadalur on the main island Streymoy was entertained, which served as the command center of a radar station on the Sornfelli.
