ISO 3166-2:DE

The list of ISO -3166 -2 codes for Germany contains the codes for the German states.

The codes are composed of two parts which are separated by a hyphen. The first part is the country code according to ISO 3166-1 ( for Germany DE), the second is the code for the constituent state ( in Germany: Province ) again. The current country code has not been updated since the publication in 1998.

The code for Brandenburg has been changed between the draft standard ISO / DIS 3166-2 and the final standard ISO 3166-2:1998 by DE -BR to DE -BB. For Lower Saxony is partially, for example in the project MAGPIE, the abbreviation ND used. The leading letter " H" in HB and HH stands as in the case of the license plate for the Hanseatic city.
