ISO 3166-2:FR

The list of ISO -3166 -2 codes for France contains the codes for the 22 regions ( région métropolitaine ), 96 departments ( département métropolitain ), 5 Übersee-Regionen/Départements ( région / département d' outre- mer), 7 overseas - authorities ( collectivité territoriale d'outre -mer) and one dependent territory ( dépendance).

The codes are composed of two parts which are separated by a hyphen. The first part is the country code according to ISO 3166-1 ( for France FR), the second is the code for the region, the department, the local authority or the area again. The current country code is in the Newsletter II-3 dated 13 December 2011 (PDF ) last updated.

The regions receive individual letters and the departments of two-digit numbers 01-95, which are borrowed from the numbering of the departments in alphabetical order. Here, except for the Übersee-Regionen/Départements, they received as the overseas authorities two letters according to their ISO -3166 -1 code. The names of the Corsican departments ( 2A Corse -du -Sud and Haute-Corse for 2B ) explained by the fact that the two departments were temporarily merged to one that wore the number 20.

All geocodes were already established on 11 September 1995 by the Association française de normalization (AFNOR ) and only standardized with ISO 1998 international. You also find in the license plate use.
