Isodesmic reaction

Isodesmic reactions described chemical reactions, in which the type and number of the bonds is retained.

In the theoretical prediction of reaction energies fall into the error calculation methods more significant, since it is small in magnitude sizes at reaction energies, compared with the energies, they arise from the difference between them is. Systematic errors cancel each other in the formation of differences in general. Thus, it is useful in theoretical chemistry to characterize reactions to the kind of systematic error, whose influence can be neglected when calculating the reaction energy.

Definition
