Isola di San Clemente

The island of San Clemente is located in the lagoon of Venice, south of the city of Venice and along the fairway, which is used by the ships direction Malamocco.

History

Under the leadership of the nobleman Pietro Gattilesso emerged from 1131 a church, mid-12th century was followed by Augustinian monks, who belonged to the Patriarchate of Grado, and built a hospital that housed pilgrims to and from the Holy Land. The last remaining on the island Augustinian monk lived there until 1432. Since 2003, a 5-star luxury hotel (San Clemente Palace ) is housed in the historic buildings on the island. The restored church was consecrated on 15 April 2003.
