The Isola di San Giovanni is located 30 meters west of the shore in front of the place belonging to Verbania Pallanza and is - apart from the tiny Scoglio della Malghera - the smallest of the Borromean Islands in Lake Maggiore. It belongs to the municipality of Verbania and Frazione Pallanza.
The nearly circular island with a diameter of about 140 meters and an area of 0.4 hectares, is now in private ownership and may not be entered by tourists. It was once the summer residence of the famous Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini ( 1867-1957 ).
