Isopropylamine is a volatile, colorless liquid and belongs to the class of the primary amines.

Production

Isopropylamine is industrially produced by amination of isopropyl alcohol to the metal catalyst at 300-500 ° C:

Handling

Isopropylamine should only be handled in closed systems, such as pressure tanks. Due to the high vapor pressure and low boiling point are mainly fire and explosion protection regulations must be observed. Ensure good ventilation of the workplace.

Use

Isopropylamine is used as a component in herbicides such as Roundup and imazapyr. For this, the acids (eg glyphosate in Roundup ) are reacted with isopropylamine to form a salt.
