The Istanbul Park Circuit (Turkish: İstanbul Park ) is a Turkish race track for car racing. The circuit should first "Istanbul Park Circuit " hot, but was then renamed shortly before the opening.

It is located in the Tuzla district on the Asian side of Istanbul. The draft was then prepared from the Aachen engineering firm Tilke GmbH. The Turkish construction companies Evren began in early 2004 with the construction works, which were completed in spite of adverse weather conditions in winter in 18 months. The cost of building the track amounted to about 100 million U.S. dollars and were made by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce ( ITO) and the Turkish Chamber and Markets Association ( TOBB ) worn ( Symes, 2005). The first Formula 1 race started on 21 August 2005. Until the 2011 season found seven Formula 1 races on this track instead. For the 2012 season, the line was removed from the calendar. In addition to the Formula 1 races were on the track from 2005 to 2007 round of the MotoGP World Championship, 2005-2006 race of the Le Mans Series and the World Touring Car Championship, 2005, a race in the championship and in 2006 a race of World Series by Renault instead.

Routing

The track is 5338 meters long and is traversed counterclockwise. It consists of eight left and six right hand corners, wherein the radius of the closest curve is 15 m. The longest of the four lines is 720 m long. The track width is the smallest cross-section 14 m and 21.5 m at its greatest.

At the end of the 655.5 m long start and finish of the race car in sixth gear reached a speed of 306 km / h The driver brakes and switches to fourth gear to pass through the first left turn at just under 200 km / h. The following right-hander, is already fully accelerated in the leads into a slightly bent to the right stretch with a very large radius, which is further enhanced by driving at full acceleration up to a speed of 310 km / h. Since the track has a significantly positive slope in this area, the more stretch for the driver is hard to see.

The race car is now directed into a first combination of curves in M- form, which is found twice on this route. It is a characteristic of this route left-right -left turns that are crossed due to the relatively small radii and quick change of direction at speeds of 100 km / h to 125 km / h in the apexes of the curves.

The subsequent line and back straight is connected by a right-hander, which is taken in second gear with 110 km / h. It is followed by a 180-degree left turn, which consists of three straight lines without transition arcs. Such Trassierungselement has been implemented only in Istanbul. If the driver remains on the racing line, it might speed up the race car of a retraction speed of 230 km / h to 305 km / h.

The driver to reach the subsequent line 320 km / h, before it reduces the velocity at the beginning of the subsequent left-right combination of 121 km / h. In the second curve begins the longest full throttle section of the track that leads over two lines, which are connected by a right-hander with a relatively large radius in the second and final combination of curves in M- form. In this section of the race car in seventh gear reaches the maximum line speed of 326 km / h It follows the first curve to the left, the slowest part of the track in which the speed is reduced to 93 km / h. Over the following right and left curve of the cars come back to the start - finish straight.

The fastest race lap was driven by Juan Pablo Montoya on a McLaren-Mercedes in 2005 and is located at 1:24:770 min. The average rate on a round is thus 228.4 km / h and to an entire race of 57 laps in 2005, including pit stops 217.5 km / h The route thus belongs to the middle fast tracks. The number of rounds was increased for the race in 2006, from 57 to 58 rounds.

Superstructure

The superstructure in asphalt construction is 64 cm thick and consists of four layers. For the installation of up to 21.5 m wide track at the same time three Pavers were used.

The first layer of 20 to 30 cm thickness composed of a mineral mixture without bitumen. Thereafter, a hydraulic bonded support layer 15 to 25 cm, an asphalt base course of 10 cm and a binder of 6 cm, were successively applied. To avoid damage, the installation of 4cm wearing course was not until all construction work had been completed. All layers consist of 19% of Dolomitkalkstaub and 16% of a mixture of sandstone dust and the chemical additive NAF 501 A total of 430,000 tonnes of material were used.

0.5 cm with the binder layer, and of / - - in order to ensure a stable position of the racing car at high speeds, tolerances of maximum / 0.2 cm were during installation in the outer layer allowed the choice of the bitumen of the top layer was to a " polymer- modified 60/70 bitumen penetration ," the 65 A with an EP BCT is comparable to the German PMB 48-55 ° C and at a breaking point Fraaß of -15 ° C. The properties are therefore suitable for the temperature conditions both in summer and in winter.

Grandstands

In addition to the main grandstand at the start and finish lines are nine additional grandstands and five free spaces available on high ground for a total of 125,000 spectators.

The main grandstand offers 26,250 covered seats. The remaining seats and standing places are distributed in equal shares to the non- covered bleachers and open areas. Spectators can watch from any platform, from the other racing events on a screen.

As an additional service available to spectators during a race weekend shuttle buses available to go around the course at regular intervals and hit stops near the inputs and outputs, all grandstands and the "F1 Village". The "F1 Village " is an area behind the main grandstand, which is used commercially and on what different attractions such as exhibitions can be visited by car manufacturers.

Transport links

Since the distance relatively far from the European city center of Istanbul and the transport connection is not optimal, the viewer march in recent years has been relatively low. The route is 45 km from Istanbul's Kadikoy on the Asian side and 15 kilometers from the nearest surrounding larger Pendik district. She can be reached both on the highway E5 ( D-100 ) as well as on the European road TEM (E -80) exit Sekerpinar - Bayramoglu. The TEM connects Istanbul and Ankara. On race weekends viewers buses are available that connect the route with to Ataturk, Kadıköy and Pendik airport. Pendik is on the coast and can be reached from the center of town with ships. In the vicinity of the route is the airport Sabiha Gokcen

For viewers who are arriving by car may 20,000 parking spaces available. The parking spaces are located outside of the track near the grandstands.
