The Rough-haired Istrian Hound ( Istrian Ostrodlaki Gonic, also Rough-haired Istrian Hound) is recognized by the FCI breed from Croatia ( FCI group 6, section 1.2, Standard No. 152).

Origin and History

The evolution and origin of the rough-haired type and the short -haired Istrian Hound ( short-haired Gonic ) is virtually identical, but the pictures are rare because Rauhaarigkeit was considered less attractive. During World War II the breed almost died out. Parallel to that of the short-haired breed the stud book was opened in 1924. The FCI has recognized the short -haired Istrian Hound in 1948. The first standard dates back to 1969.

Description

Even the look of this hound breed is very similar to the short-haired: up to 58 cm tall and 24 kg in weight, only the fur is rather smooth, rauhaarig, shaggy and also longer. Again, the color is white with yellow-orange badge. The tail is carried saber shaped and is high. The ears are medium to long and covered with short fur. The head hair of the dog is clearly shaggy.
