The short -haired Istrian Hound ( short-haired Gonic ) is one of the FCI (No. 151, Gr. 6 sec 1.2) recognized dog breed from Croatia.

Origin and History

The exact origin of this long-established hound is suppose to determine hardly. Already on frescoes ( 1474, St. Mary's Chapel in Beram near Pazin ), paintings (among Titian, first half of 18th century ) and chronicles ( 1719, Bishop Bakić Đakovo ) is shown this type. The stud book was opened, however late, as so often in dogs that are naturally used. The first entries date from 1924. 1949 was the recognition by the FCI, however, a standard was not published until 1973.

Description

Short-haired Istrian Bracken are up to 50 cm wide and 18 kg hounds of " noble " shape. The basic color of the coat is white with yellow-orange badge, the hair is short and fine. The saber -shaped tail is set high and thin. The hanging ears are medium to long and can put forward reach to the tip of the nose, but must be at least half as long.
