Istrup belongs since 1970 to the 19 villages in the town of Blomberg in the Lippe district of North Rhine -Westphalia. The village lies in a straight line about 4 km west of the city core. History

In 1900, a mammoth tooth was found while digging a well in Istrup, whose age is estimated at 80 to 100 thousand years.
