Istrup belongs since 1970 to the 19 villages in the town of Blomberg in the Lippe district of North Rhine -Westphalia. The village lies in a straight line about 4 km west of the city core. In Istrup around 1572 people live in a community area of 10.54 km ² (as of 2008), which corresponds to a population density of 149 inhabitants / km ². History

In 1900, a mammoth tooth was found while digging a well in Istrup, whose age is estimated at 80 to 100 thousand years. The human habitation of the area apparently began around 4000 years BC, the show finds of stone axes from the Neolithic period. These finds are exhibited in the National Museum in Lippe Detmold.
