The black -fringed broom tensioner ( Isturgia limbaria ), also known as Yellow broom herb tensioner or Yellow Broom tensioner, is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the tensioner ( Geometridae ).

Features

Butterfly

The moths reach a wingspan of 22-28 millimeters. The forewings are yellow or orange - yellow colored and dusted little dark. To view an eponymous black hem. At the front edge there is a weak, poorly defined thin black line. The hind wings are lightly dusted blackish and have a blurred black fabric tape. Remarkable are the white vertical stripes on the hind wing underside. When flying in the south-eastern Alps ssp. rablensis are formed these strips slightly weaker. The antennae of the males are combed, those of the females thready.

Egg

The egg is slim, of a greenish color, white at the pole and provided with small reddish brown spots. The Mikropylrosette is siebenblättrig. On the corners of the strongly undulating fins are small warts.

Caterpillar

Adults caterpillars are green or brown and show yellowish longitudinal lines and wide, white- yellow side stripes.

Doll

The brown doll has a conical cremaster, which is provided with two upwardly curved thorns.

Similar Species

The moths of Isturgia roraria differ by the stronger dark pollination on the front and rear wings. The black fabric tape is less pronounced. Main difference is the lack of longitudinal white stripe on the hind wing underside.

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The black -fringed broom tensioner comes in Western Europe before locally. In the Southern Alps, he rises to heights of 2000 meters. Main habitat is dry sandy and heathland areas, bushy slopes and forest edges and clearings.

Way of life

The diurnal moths form two generations per year. The first generation flies from mid-May to the end of June, the second generation of the end of July to mid-August. When the sun shines, the moths fly at a rapid flight and rest with wings folded up in the vegetation. They were (Trifolium repens ) were observed sucking the flowers of Eupatorium ( Eupatorium ), White Sweet Clover ( Melilotus albus) and white clover. The caterpillars feed on Scotch broom ( Cytisus scoparius ), rarely by other broom species ( Genista ). The pupa overwinters.
