István Barta

István Barta ( born August 13, 1895 in Álmosd, Hungary, † February 16, 1948 in Budapest) was a Hungarian water polo player.

Life and career

Barta took part in the Olympic Games for the first time in 1924, when he finished in Paris with the Hungarian water polo national team to fifth place. Four years later, he reached in Amsterdam with the Hungarian team the finals and lost there first against the team from Germany with 2:5 and took silver. Again, four years later, at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the Hungarian team took revenge for this defeat and beat Germany in the decisive final game 6-2. Hungary was Olympic champion and won Barta, along with his teammates Bródy György Sándor Ivády, Olivér Halassy, Jozsef Vértesy, Janos Nemeth, Márton Homonnay, Alajos Keseru, Miklós and Ferenc Sárkány Keseru, his first gold medal.
