István Móna

István Móna ( born September 17, 1940 in Nyíregyháza, † July 28, 2010 in Budapest) was a Hungarian modern pentathlete and was with the Hungarian team Balczó - Móna - Török four -time world champion and Olympic champion. For six years in a row the legendary Hungarian trio remained invincible.

After completion of his own sporting career Móna worked as a lawyer and as a trainer and sports manager. He accompanied talented young fencers on their way to not only outstanding athletic performance (eg Tímea Nagy, two time Olympic gold medalist in epee fencing ) but supported them in order to complete a thorough training outside of the sport.

Sporting achievements:

Services as trainers and sports managers: Since 1992, member of the Hungarian Olympic Committee ( MOB). Member and between 1997 and 2004 Vice - President of the Club of the Hungarian Olympic champion since 1993. In 2005 he received the Cross of Merit of the Hungarian Republic for his outstanding commitment to the modern pentathlon and fencing and for his athletic life's work.

In his autobiography " Élettusa " ( struggle ), which was published shortly before his death in Hungary, he describes in detail the contemporary world of the modern pentathlon Kamps.
