István Szívós

István Szívós ( born August 20, 1920 in Budapest, † June 22, 1992 ) was a Hungarian water polo player.

He was with the Hungarian water polo team in 1952 and 1956 Olympic champion and won silver at the Games in 1948. 1954 Szívós became European Champion with the Hungarian team. In 1956 he went - without success - in the swimming competition over 200 meters breaststroke at the start.

After 1956, the Hungarian national uprising was brutally suppressed, Szívós was one of five players who returned to the Olympics in 1956 immediately after Hungary. Overall, he played 64 international matches for Hungary. In 1997, he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame Sports. His son István 1976 Olympic champion in water polo, his grandson was Márton 2005 and 2007 Vice World Champion.
