István Tarlós

István Tarlós ( born May 26, 1948 in Budapest ) is, since 2010, Mayor of Budapest.

Life

In 1989 he became a member of the liberal Alliance of Free Democrats, but left him in 1994. As Independent he held from 1994 to 2006 the office of mayor in the Third District of the capital. In 2006 went to the Fidesz and became its Chairman in the Budapest municipal council. He lost narrowly to the former Mayor of Budapest, Gábor Demszky the candidate of the Alliance of Free Democrats - SZDZS.

Tarlós fell due to the controversial appointment of György Dörner the director of the Budapest New Theatre and the project (2013 ), a Budapest street after the anti-Semitic writer Cécile Tormay ( for which, moreover, in 2012, a bust was erected ) shall be nominated in the criticism.

István Tarlós is the father of three grown children and two grandchildren.
