ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating

The ISU Grand Prix Series or ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating is a series of competitions that are organized by the International Skating Union. You are discharged men, women, pair skating and ice dancing in the four sub-disciplines. At the same time there will be a similar number of competitions for juniors.

Competitions

The ISU Grand Prix series currently consists of the following six individual competitions

Traditionally, the season starts with this Grand Prix competitions in October and ends with the ISU Grand Prix Final in December of each year. Eligible to participate in the final are the six best individual runners / couples that are determined by a points system.

History

Even before the emergence of the Grand Prix series has a variety of different individual competitions took place. At that time they were focused exclusively on the respective national skating federation. In 1995, determined the skating federations of the United States, Japan, France, Germany and Canada to link their individual events together. In the 1995/96 season for the first time ISU Champions Series took place.

In the 1998/99 season, the ISU acquired the naming rights. Since then, the competition series goes by the name Grand Prix of Figure Skating. Since 1996 also scored the Cup of Russia on this series. Due to lack of interest in Germany and a better TV service from China in 2003 was the Bofrost Cup ( previously Sparkassen Cup / Nations Cup ) is deleted and replaced by the Cup of China.

Since 1997 also the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating takes place.

Participation

Participants are skaters that are either set or be invited. Put Runners / couples the top places in the world rankings or good places at the previous World Cup. Also, runners can be invited by the organizing organizer. A maximum of three runners / couples per discipline and country allowed.

The runners can qualify through a points system for the ISU Grand Prix Final. Qualified runners / couples may participate in a maximum of two competitions.
