Italy women's national volleyball team

The Italian national volleyball team of women is a selection of the best Italian players, who represents the FIPAV ( Federazione Italiana Pallavolo ) in international tournaments and international matches.

History

World Championships

Italy took in 1978 for the first time at a World Volleyball Championships in part, finishing in 20th place. In the next two tournaments we went up to the ninth before it (14 place) was 1990 ( tenth place ) and 1994 setbacks. But in 1998 it was enough for the Italian women for the fifth rank and four years later, at the 2002 World Cup in Germany, they were in the final against the United States for the first time world champion. At the 2006 World Championships she finished fourth at the 2010 World Championships and fifth place.

Olympic games

Italy was present only at the games in 2000 for the first time and finished ninth. At the tournament in 2004, the Italians reached the fifth place. The same result there was in Beijing in 2008 after losing in the quarterfinals to eventual finalists USA.

European Championships

The first participation in a European Volleyball Championship in 1951, Italy did not come on the sixth and final square. After that, they were missing three times. 1967 there was an eleventh place and four years later the Italians eight were in their own country. Then it went downhill again and 1979, she missed another EM. As of 1981, the Italian women worked gradually upwards. As hosts they lost in 1991, the match for third place against the German team. This was followed by a fourth and two sixth places. As the EM 1999 was held for the third time in Italy, it was enough for the hosts to third place. 2001 subject to the Italians Russia only in the finale. After a sixth place in 2003, they reached the final again in 2005, this time the Poles won. At the tournament in 2007 Italy was a final victory against Serbia for the first time European champions. In Poland in 2009 the title was successfully verteigt.

World Cup

Italy took part in 1999 for the first time at the World Cup, and reached the seventh place. In 2003, she was already in fourth and 2007, they won the competition ahead of Brazil.

World Grand Prix

At its premiere in 1994, Italy was at the World Grand Prix in eighth place. 1997 returned the Italians back after two -year break and were washed twice in fifth and fourth once before it with seventh place was 2000, a slightly worse result.
