Itchan Kala

Ichаn Qаlа (int. also Itchan -Kala; Uzbek also Ichon Qаlа ) is the walled Old City Uzbek oasis city of Khiva. In 1990 Ichаn Qаlа was recorded at the UNESCO World Heritage.

The old city contains more than 50 historic monuments and 250 houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Partly buildings are considerably older, the Djuma Mosque, which was built in the 10th century and was rebuilt in 1788-1789. Spectacular are decorated with battlements ornaments brick walls and four gates, where each one is located on each side of the rectangular fortress.

It is believed that the foundation of the 10th century came from. The ten meter high fortress wall, however, dates from the 17th century.
