Itumbiara Dam

The Itumbiara Reservoir is located on the Rio Paranaíba between the districts and cities Itumbiara in Goiás and Minas Gerais in Tupaciguara in Brazil, about 800 km north- west of Rio de Janeiro and 300 km south of Brasília. The Brazilian names of the dam are: " Barragem Itumbiara ", " Lago de Itumbiara ", " Represa de Itumbiara ", also called " Lago das Brisas ".

At the dam, the sixth- largest hydroelectric plant in Brazil is operated. The dam was built in 1974-1980 and provides an electrical output of 2082 megawatts.

The reservoir was not created only to generate electricity from hydropower, but also serves the tourism, water sports, fishing, and other purposes.

In addition to the Rio Paranaíba, a tributary of the Paraná River, are also the Corumbá Rio and the Rio Araguari further inflows to the reservoir. The shut-off is (probably ) a combination of a dam of earth materials and a gravity dam. Its maximum height is 106 meters, the building length 6780 meters.
