Ivan Byakov

Ivan Ivanovich Bjakow (Russian: Иван Иванович Бяков; born September 21, 1944 in Issakowzy, Rajon Kirovo - Tschepezk, Oblast Kirov, then Soviet Union, † November 4, 2009 in Kiev, Ukraine) was a Soviet biathlete and two -time Olympic champion and Ukrainian biathlon coach and - functionary.

Ivan Bjakow won the race 4 x 7.5 km at the Winter Olympics 1972 in Sapporo with the Soviet biathlon relay. In individual over 20 km, it peaked at number twelve. Four years later at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1976 he repeated the triumph with the Soviet relay and won his second gold medal. In 1974, Bjakow part for the only time at Biathlon World Championships. In the individual he was with two penalties and was seventh after Alexander Tikhonov second-best of the Soviet team in the 10-km sprint he was 40 and in the season he did not play.

After his athletic career, he was biathlon coach, and was head coach of Ukraine's national and junior national team. From 1992 to 1996 he was the first president of the Ukrainian Biathlon Federation and a member of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. Until his death in 2009, he served on the Board of the Ukrainian Biathlon Federation.
