Ivan Drašković

Ivan II Baron Draskovic Trakošćan (* 1550 Trakošćan Castle ();? † 1613 in Bratislava ) was a Ban of Croatia from the house Draskovic.

He was the son of Baron Gašpar Draskovic ( German: Kaspar ) born and his wife Katarina Székely Ormož.

1593 he participated in the Battle of Sissek, which ended with a great victory of the Croats and Austrians. From 1596 to 1608 he was Ban of Croatia.

Ivan Draskovic was chamberlain of Emperor Rudolf II, Secret and Hofkriegsrat, general of cavalry, Lord Lieutenant of the county Kreutzer, fought with distinction against the Turks, in 1597 shocked the besieged by the Turks fortress Petrinia and had particularly to the masterly retreat of Kanizsa ( 10 October 1600 ) the most important component. In the uprising Bocskay he kept Croatia in loyalty to the Emperor, defeated the Hungarian rebels and so helped the peace of 1606 to bring about, to which he laid down the Banuswürde, the site of an Imperial War Council, Commanding General of the Kingdom of Hungary beyond the Danube and Tavernicorum regalium magistri but retained. He died in 1613 in Pozsony / Pressburg.

Ivan Draskovic is to be regarded as the real founder of Freemasonry in the Slavic south.
