Ivan Jurkovič

Ivan Jurkovic ( born June 10, 1952 in Kočevje, Yugoslavia ) is a Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See.

Life

Ivan Jurkovic received on 29 June 1977, the ordination to the priesthood by Archbishop Jože Pogacnik and was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Ljubljana. He studied Catholic theology at the Theological Faculty of the University of Ljubljana. In 1988 he received his doctorate in canon law. After studying at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome, he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 May 1984.

He was secretary to the Nunciature in South Korea (1984-1988) and Auditor at the Nunciature in Colombia (1988-1992) and advisor to the representation of the Holy See in the Russian Federation (1992-1996) and consultant to the Organization for Security and cooperation in Europe ( OSCE). From 1993 to 1996 he taught canon law at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Theological College (now Saint Thomas Institute Moscow). He then worked in the Vatican Secretariat of State. In 1997 he was appointed Honorary Prelate of His Holiness.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Archbishop of Krbava 2001 and appointed him as Apostolic Nuncio in Belarus ( Belarus ). He received his episcopal consecration on 6 October 2001 in Ljubljana the Cardinal Angelo Sodano; Were co-consecrators Franc Rode CM, Archbishop of Ljubljana, and Archbishop Edmond Farhat Y., Nuncio to Slovenia. In 2004 he was appointed Nuncio in Ukraine.
