Ivan Klánský

Ivan Klánský ( born May 13, 1948 in Prague) is a Czech pianist and music teacher.

Klánský studied from 1963 to 1968 at the Prague Conservatory with Valentina Kameníková and then to 1973 at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU ) with František Rauch. He was a prize winner of competitions in Bolzano ( International Piano Competition Ferruccio Busoni, 1967), Naples ( 1968), Leipzig ( International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition, 1968), Barcelona (1970 ) and Warsaw (1970), gave numerous concerts as a soloist and chamber musician, and was from 1995 to 2000 solo pianist of the Czech Philharmonic. Since 1986 he is a member of the Prague Guarneri Trio, with whom he recorded several CDs.

Since 1983 Klánský taught at the AMU, where he heads the department of keyboard instruments since 1997. In 1991 he became Professor of Music at the University of Music in Lucerne. He also gave master classes, among others in Dublin ( 1982-86 ) and bathroom Sulgau ( since 1997). Among his students Helena Suchárová -Weiser, Eliska Gazdová - Novotná, Martin Kasík and Stepan Kos. As President of the Czech Chopin Society (since 1995) he heads the Chopin Festival in Marienbad.
