Ivanov reaction

The Ivanov reaction, also Ivanov reaction is a name reaction in organic chemistry and named after the Bulgarian Dimitar Ivanov Popov chemist ( 1894-1975 ). He described this reaction in 1931 for the first time. The Ivanov reaction involves reactions of the dianions of aryl acetic acids, the so-called Ivanov reagents, with electrophiles, preferably carbonyl compounds or isocyanates.

Ivanov reagents react with a wide range of electrophiles. Synthetically important are aldehydes, ketones, isocyanates, and alkyl halides.

The Ivanov reaction proceeds via a Zimmermann -Traxler transition state. Toulec et al. have studied the kinetics of the reaction.
