Ivar Formo

Ivar Formo (* June 24, 1951, † 26 December 2006 at Nordmarka forest area in Oslo) was a Norwegian cross-country skier.

Life and career

At the Olympic Winter Games Sapporo in 1972, he won over 15 km of bronze and with the 4x10 km relay silver medal. 1976 in Innsbruck again, he won Olympic silver in the 4x10 km relay and was Olympic champion in the 50 km. In addition, he won bronze medalist in the relay in 1974 in Falun and 1978 in Lahti. The 1973/74 season he finished as the winner of the inaugural, was still unofficial cross-country skiing World Cup. In 1975 he was awarded the Holmenkollen medal.

Formo was also successful in orienteering and won at the World Championships 1974 bronze medal in the relay.

In 1976, he won the election to Norway's Athlete of the Year as well as the Morgenbladet gold medal. .

Ivar Formo broke at a skating tour on December 26, 2006, on the lake Store- sanders in the ice and drowned.
