Ivrea

Ivrea ( Ivrea Piedmontese, in the local dialect Ivreja ) is a city in Italy, with 23,632 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Turin, Piedmont.

The neighboring municipalities are Chiaverano, Montalto Dora, Burolo, Bollengo, Cascinette d' Ivrea, Fiorano Canavese, Banchette, Salerano Canavese, Pavone Canavese, Albiano d' Ivrea, Romano Canavese, Strambino and Vestignè. The patron saint of the place is the Holy Savinus.

Geography

The city is located on the northern edge of the Po Valley between Turin and Aosta Valley at an altitude of 253 m asl. Located at the foot of a 25 km long ridge morainic origin, known as the La Serra. Through the city flows the river Dora Baltea. The municipality covers an area of ​​30 km ².

Geology

History

Ivrea was founded in 100 BC by the Romans as Eporedia.

In 6/7 Century after the separation of the diocese of Vercelli is Ivrea bishopric. She was the center of a Lombard duchy and county in Mark nachkarolingischer time. In Ivrea Olivetti was founded in 1908.
