Iwate-Ichinohe-Tunnel

The Iwate- Ichinohe Tunnel (Japanese岩手 一戸 トンネル, Iwate tonneru Ichinohe ) is a railway tunnel in Iwate, Japan and is located on the route between Morioka and Hachinohe. The tunnel was built for the Tōhoku Shinkansen, a high-speed rail link between Tokyo and Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture. The only train that uses the tunnel currently is the Hayate - an express train between the two end stations.

It was completed in 2002 ( Breakthrough 2000) and was then for a long time as the longest land tunnel in the world. With 25,810 meters, it is still one of the longest tunnel in the world, but was surpassed in 2005 on the same route from Hakkoda Tunnel, which measures approximately 26,500 meters.
