iWeb

IWeb is a program of the company Apple for easily creating web sites. It was introduced in January 2006 and was part of the iLife software package from Apple. The development was stopped by now, however.

IWeb is aimed primarily at laymen and beginners, which are not or only slightly familiar with HTML but still want to achieve great results quickly with the creation of websites. To this end, iWeb uses ready-made templates, which are predominantly based on graphic elements and image files. These templates can be quickly and easily edit, so that it is ultimately given to each user to create a unique piece, but changing templates can be very difficult as a permanent template store. Due to the restriction to graphically to-use settings and tools, it is for advanced users who want, for example, edit the HTML code, less suitable. A partial processing allows however the HTML snippet function. The clever use of the possibilities of the program allows the other hand, extensive graphical freedoms. iWeb is a so called WYSIWYG editor.

Some of the functions that can be integrated via iWeb websites, such as a visitor or comments on blogs were only executed when the pages are published under a MobileMe account.

The last iWeb update has been delivered as part of iLife '09, 2009. The 2011 introduced iLife '11 iWeb '09 still contained. With the introduction of the Mac App Store distribution of iWeb was finally stopped. A simple publication of Web sites created with iWeb is no longer possible because the underlying MobileMe service in mid- 2012. However, the web pages you create can be exported and uploaded separately.
