Ixhuatán is a municipality in the north of the Mexican state of Chiapas. The name comes from the Aguaima and means " place of green leaf ."

The municipality has about 10,000 inhabitants and an area of 94.7 km ². Administrative seat and largest town of the Municipalities is the same Ixhuatán.

The municipality borders the Municipalities Ixhuatán Solosuchiapa, Amatán, Pueblo Nuevo Solistahuacán, Tapilula, Pantepec and Chapultenango.
