Iztok Osojnik

Iztok Osojnik ( born July 27 1951 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian writer.

Life

Osojnik has studied Comparative Literature at the University of Ljubljana, his teacher was Dušan Pirjevec. With the poet Jure Detela he brought out a sub- real manifesto and was part of the avant-garde group pisarna Aleph. Between 1980 and 1982 he studied for a Masters at Osaka Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan. He was invited to various fellowships and visiting professorships: In 2000 he was a Fellow at the Cambridge Seminar on Contemporary British writers, 2001 Fellow at the Goethe Institute in Berlin, between 2002 and 2003 he visited the USA with the Fulbright Program. This literary festival, founded in 1986 " Kristal Vilenica " was between 1999 and 2004 under his leadership.

He has published several collections of his poems, wrote four novels so far and achieved various awards. There are translations in several European languages. Osojnik were anthologies of Slovene literature out in English translation.
