J. B. Hutto

Joseph Benjamin " J. B. " Hutto ( born April 26, 1926 in Blackville, South Carolina, USA, † June 12, 1983 in Harvey, Illinois) was an American blues guitarist. Influenced by Elmore James Hutto developed an expressive style on the slide guitar. In addition, Hutto was known for his dynamic performances.

Life

Hutto made ​​in Augusta, Georgia, at the Golden Crowns Gospel Singers his first musical experiences. The group consisted of himself and his three brothers and three sisters. In the 1940s, he and his family went to the death of his father, a preacher, to Chicago. There he taught himself to play the guitar himself and began his professional career at Johnny Ferguson & His Twisters. Also on the famous Maxwell Street Market, he was often heard. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army as a truck driver.

In 1954, Hutto and his band, the Hawks, his first album. After some success, he retired to largely withdraw from the music business. During the blues revival in the 1960s and JB Hutto was rediscovered his Hawks. The special feature of the new Hawks was, but that they occurred without bass with two guitars and drums. With this band he appeared in Turner 's Blue Lounge and took after a long time plates. In the next 12 years, he joined again with different musicians, but the band still called "The Hawks ". After the death of Hound Dog Taylor "took over" he whose band "The Housrockers " with Brewer Phillips and Ted Harvey, although they never took an official record, but had a dynamic live band. Recordings of a performance were published in 1991. After a year, they separated and Hutto formed the " New Hawks ", with whom he worked until his death. 1977 Hutto moved to Boston, where he spent the last years of his life. He died in 1983 and was buried in the Restvale Cemetery, Alsip, Illinois. In 1985, he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. His nephew, Lil ' Ed Williams learned from him to play the guitar, which he now runs with his band, The Blues Imperials.
