J. Hugo Aronson

John Hugo Aronson ( born September 1, 1891 in Gällstad, Sweden, † February 25, 1978 in Columbia Falls, Montana ) was an American politician and from 1953 to 1961 the 14th Governor of the state of Montana.

Early years and political rise

Born in the town of Ulricehamn Hugo Aronson attended the local schools of his native Sweden. In 1911 he came to the United States, where he pursued in different states different occupations. Finally he settled in Sunburst (Montana). There he ran a business that was offered in the supplies for oil production.

Aronson was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1934 and 1938 he was a councilor in Cut Bank; 1939-1944 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Montana. Then he moved to the State Senate, where he remained from 1945 to 1952.
