J.I. Allison

Jerry Ivan Allison ( born August 31, 1938 in Hillsboro (Texas ) ) is an American rock ' n ' roll drummer who was best known as the drummer of Buddy Holly & The Crickets.

Life

In 1956, he found himself with Buddy Holly and Joe B. Mauldin together establishing the Crickets. Soon they began to participate in local dance events and competitions and made ​​their first recordings. After the band with Norman Petty began a collaboration, Allison wrote, along with Holly and Petty, the song Peggy Sue, who was their most successful single; the song is about Allison's wife, Peggy Sue, whom he married it.

After Holly had separated from the Crickets and 1959 in a plane crash was killed, Allison led the Crickets. They took on more albums and singles that made it sporadically in the American charts. Allison published at the end of the 1950s also released two solo singles on which Holly is to be heard as a studio musician. The band has, apart from Allison and Mauldin, changing members.
