Jaala

Jaalah [ jɑ lɑ ː ] is a former municipality in the south of Finland and is now a part of the city of Kouvola.

Jaalah located in the north of the landscape Kymi. The Kirchdorf Jaalah approximately 30 kilometers northwest of the center of Kouvola on the shore of Lake Pyhäjärvi has around 900 inhabitants. The community Jaalah included beside the villages Huhdasjärvi, Kimola, Paljakka - Pökölä, Siikava, Uimila and Verla and had an area of ​​563.5 km ². The area of Jaalah is rich in lakes (almost a quarter of the former municipal area is covered by inland waters ) and rural. The population of the municipality was last Jaalah 1855. Consequently, the population density was 4.3 people per square kilometer for Southern Finland is very low.

The Board Mill Verla in the former municipality of Jaalah belongs since 1996 to the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The factory was in operation from 1882 to 1964 and was then converted into an industrial museum.

The municipality consists of Jaalah since 1877. Previously, the place was part of the parish Iitti. Until the completion of the Church of Jaalah in 1878 the inhabitants of Jaalah had gone by boat across the Pyhajarvi to the fair after Iitti. The beginning of 2009 Jaalah was incorporated along with Anjalankoski, Kuusankoski, Valkeala and Elimäki in the city of Kouvola.
