Jaan Einasto

Jaan Einasto ( born February 23, 1929 in Tartu) is an Estonian astrophysicist.

Einasto worked from 1977 to 1998 at the Astronomical Observatory in Tartu and was from 1992 Professor of Cosmology at the University of Tartu.

The research group led by Einasto published the catalog of super clusters of galaxies in the 2dF redshift survey.

In 2009 he was awarded the Marcel Grossmann Award for pioneering work in the discovery of dark matter and large structures in the universe ( cosmic web) and promotion of research on the history of the Observatory in Tartu.

The asteroid ( 11577 ) Einasto was named after him.
