Jaan Kärner

Jaan Kärner ( born May 27, 1891 at village Käo, then Kirepi municipality, rural community today Rõngu, Tartu county, † 3 April 1958 Tartu ) was an Estonian writer.

Life

Kärner Jaan was born as the son of a farmer. He attended from 1901 to 1906 in the Ministerialschule Uderna (now rural community Rõngu ). Since 1906 he was literary activities. From 1910 Kärner worked in various magazine editors in Tallinn. In 1911/12 and 1914 he studied at the Municipal People's University "AL Schanjawski " in Moscow. From 1917 Kärner was also politically active and in 1919 editor of the union newspaper Töö Hääl ( German voice of the work).

1921 could be Kärner down in Elva. From 1927 to 1929 he worked as editor of the magazine Looming, from 1936 to 1938 in the journal Tänapäev and 1940/41, published by Ilukirjandus yes art. Since the early 1920s he worked as a freelance writer. During the German occupation of Estonia ( 1941-44 ) Kärner lived in the Soviet Union. With the Soviet occupation of Estonia, he returned to his homeland and joined the Communist authorities at. He then worked as an editor at various newspapers and magazines and in publishing. Mid-1940s, fell Kärner deranged and died in 1958 in Tartu.

Work

Jaan Kärner has made mainly as a poet a name and is particularly known for his nature poetry. Many of his poems were set to music by Estonian composer of choral music. In addition Kärner wrote numerous novels, plays, literary criticism as well as scientific literature and historical treatises. He translated works from German and Russian, among others, in 1934 a transfer of poems by Heinrich Heine into Estonian.
