Jaan Kiivit, Jr.

Jaan Kiivit ( jr. ) ( born February 19, 1940 in Rakvere, Estonia, † August 31 2005 in St. Petersburg, Russia ) was a Protestant theologian and Archbishop of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church, based in Tallinn.

Jaan Kiivit, the son of the former Archbishop Estonian Jaan Kiivit ( Sr. ), was ordained in 1966 by his father and worked for almost thirty years as pastor of Holy Spirit Church in Tallinn. In 1994 he was elected Archbishop of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church ( EELC ) and had hold office until his retirement in February 2005. He was succeeded by Andres Põder.

Jaan Kiivit ( jr. ) died in Saint Petersburg on his way to a reception on the occasion of the adoption and the 80th birthday of Archbishop Georg Kretschmar, spiritual leader of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Central Asia ( ELCROS ).

Since 1980 was already Jaan Kiivit ( jr. ) active in the field of foreign and partner relationships his Estonian Church and thus responsible member of the consistory. From 1980 to 1994 he was Lecturer in Practical Theology at the Theological Institute of EELC in Tallinn.
