Jaanus Tamkivi

Jaanus Tamkivi ( born November 17, 1959 in Kuressaare ) is an Estonian politician.

Life and Politics

Jaanus Tamkivi put his baccalaureate in 1978 from Kuressaare. Subsequently, he studied until 1983 at the Polytechnic Institute in Tallinn Civil Engineering. From 1983 to 1989 he led the supervision of a collective farm on the island of Saaremaa.

From 1989 to 1992 Jaanus Tamkivi was Head of Department for the restoration of medieval churches in the state restoration authority of Saaremaa, before moving into the private sector. From 1992 to 1996 he was director of the company AS Tansar. After that he went into politics. From 1996 to 2005 was Tamkivi Mayor of Kuressaare. Between November 2000 and February 2006, he was also President of Estonian Cities ( Eesti Linnade Liit ).

From 2005 to 2007 was deputy Jaanus Tamkivi in the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). He was first Chairman of the Environment Committee, later leader of the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Eesti Reformierakond ).

From April 2007 to April 2011 Jaanus Tamkivi was Estonian environment minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip. Since April 2011 Tamkivi deputy is again a Member of the Estonian Parliament.

Private life

Jaanus Tamkivi is married and has three children.
