Jacek Rotmil

Jacques Rotmil, Jack Rotmil and Jacek Rotmil (* November 24, 1888 in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire, † July 26, 1944 in Warsaw, General Government ) was a Russian art director.

Life and work

Rotmil was educated in Karlsruhe as an engineer and architect. He then began his work there as an interior designer. Immediately after the First World War were made in Berlin Rotmil contacts to the German film industry. There he paid at the time of the Weimar Republic from a wealth of undemanding entertainment films. Rotmil preferably designed the scenes for comedies Richard Eichberg's and Viktor Jansons, but come from him also the Filmbauten to several productions of Jacob Fleck, Gustav Ucicky and Wilhelm Thiele.

As a result of the rise of the Jew Rotmil Germany in the spring fled from. In Warsaw he found polonized his first name to " Jacek ", easily connecting to the local filmmaking and remained still highly productive. Rotmil paid around from a dozen films a year, including a few in Yiddish twisted works. After the occupation of Warsaw by the Wehrmacht in 1939 Rotmil dived into the ground. Arrested later, he was executed on July 26, 1944 at Warsaw Pawiak immediately before the start of the Warsaw Uprising.
