Jack Chesbro

John Dwight "Jack" Chesbro ( born June 5, 1874 in North Adams, Massachusetts, † November 6, 1931 in Conway, Massachusetts) was an American baseball pitcher in Major League Baseball. His nickname was Happy Jack.

Biography

Jack Chesbro began his career in the minor leagues, but had a slow start because he was always in teams under contract that had to set the game farm in the middle of the season. It was not until his move to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1899 should change this. Fame reached the Spitball Pitcher for the seasons 1901 and 1902, when he was in each case the National League win with the Pirates. 1903 was followed by his move to the New York Yankees.

The 1904 season represented the absolute pinnacle of his career dar. He won 41 games, 48 of his 51 starts were complete games, 30 of them in order even at the beginning of the season. However, a wild pitch by him against the Boston Pilgrims prevents the possible winning the championship on 10 October 1904.

In the season of 1909, he still moved to Boston and ended his career in Major League. Although he was only 12 active years in the Major Leagues, nine of them as a regular starting pitcher, his stats were so impressive that he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946.
