Jack Grunsky

Jack Grunsky ( born 1945 ) is a Canadian- Austrian musician, singer and songwriter.

Jack Grunsky was born in 1945 in Graz, Austria, and lived from 1951 in Canada. In high school in Toronto, began his musical career where he played drums in a band and in a folk trio guitar. After finishing school in 1966 he came back to his native Austria, where he continued his musical career.

Together with his band " Jack 's Angels" (Christoph Oberhuber - Bass, Claudia Pohl - vocals, Herbert Wegscheider - Guitar, Jack Grunsky - vocals and guitar), he signed a recording contract with Amadeo. The rest of the band members came originally from Linz, but studied in Vienna. The band rehearsed the often self-composed songs with mostly 3- stimmigem singing in a basement digs in the Viennese suburb of wall / Hietzing where Grunsky also lived. In the two years of its existence, they released four albums and several singles compilations taken some " Jack 's Angels ' songs were also in the European pop charts. 1968 separated the " Jack 's Angels", which were then quite on a par with Peter, Paul & Mary.

Afterwards he played a three solo albums and several singles for Amadeo and worked some with Alexis Korner together in London. In Austria Grunsky is one of the obstetrician and pioneer of Austropop. So he composed the interpreted by André Heller entitled " Catherine", which became one of the first chart success of Heller. In the early 1970s he hosted on Ö3 a series entitled " Folk with Jack ."

In 1974 he left Austria for Canada and made in the following decades a reputation as a creator of children demanding music. He was twice awarded the Juno Award.
