Jack Hibberd

John Charles "Jack" Hibberd ( born April 12, 1940 in Warracknabeal, Yarriambiack Shire, Victoria ) is an Australian playwright and author.

Biography

Hibberd is married to actress Evelyn Krape and has two children with this: Spike and Molly. From the first marriage the children Lily ( 1972) and James (1984 ) submitted. He is co-founder of the Australian Performing Group ( APG). In 1983 he founded the Melbourne Writers Theatre.

Career

His first piece White With Wire Wheels came in 1967 at the University of Melbourne on the stage. Shortly afterwards, was his short piece Three Old Friends, the first production, which was first performed at La Mama Theatre on July 29, 1967 in a cast with Graeme Blundell, Bruce Knappet and David Kendall. Hibberds best-known plays are Dimboola (1969 ) and A Stretch of the Imagination (1972). 1973 David Williamson led in the performance of Dimboola in the Pram Factory Director. In 1979 the play was made ​​into a film. A Stretch of the Imagination was performed in England, the USA, Germany and China.

The Mama Theatre brought the 40th anniversary production of Three Old Friends and Just Before the Honey Moon and This Great Gap of Time. The premiere was on 18 July 2007, directed by Matt Scholten. There were two productions of A Stretch of the Imagination. In the one led Laurence Strangio Director ( a new version with two actors ), and in another Greg Carroll. 2008 La Mama Dimboola led again.

2009 went HIT Productions with a new performance of A Stretch of the Imagination on a 14- week tour of 26 venues. Directed by Denis Moore, the main role was played by John Wood.
