Jackie Kelso

Jackie Kelso; actually John Joseph Kelson Jr.; ( Born February 27, 1922 in Los Angeles, † 27 April 2012) was an American jazz and rhythm and blues musician ( saxophone, flute, clarinet).

Life and work

Kelson studied in the 1930s at Gray Conservatory and began his professional career with 15 years in the orchestra of Jerome Myart. In the 1940s he played in CL Burke, Barney Bigard, Marshall Royal, Lucky Thompson, Kid Ory, Benny Carter, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton and Roy Milton. In the 1950s, he also appeared with Johnny Otis ( Rock 'N Roll Hit Parade Volume 1 ), Billy Vaughan, Nelson Riddle, Bill Berry, Frank Capp - Nat Pierce Juggernaut, Ray Anthony, Bob Crosby and Duke Ellington.

In 1960 he was a member of the studio instrumental rock band The Piltdown Men, who was also Tommy Tedesco.
