The Réserve écologique Jackrabbit is one furnished in 1981, initially under the name réserve écologique des Laurentides in an area of 604 ha at first (since 1992 but on 750 ha enlarged ) protected area in the south of the Canadian province of Quebec.
It is in the MRC Les Laurentides in the Laurentian mountains - hence the original name - but was not named after the enlargement in 1992 for the genuine rabbit, as it is called in English, but by the nickname Jack Rabbit for the skier Herman Smith - Johannsen. He organized in 1928 the first slalom competition in Canada at Mont Tremblant. The area protects the Lower Laurentians Mauricie and the Lac Nominingue where the yellow birch predominates.
