Jacksonville is a city in Calhoun County in Alabama. In the census in the United States in 2000, the town had 8404 inhabitants. It is located in the Anniston - Oxford metropolitan area.

History

Jacksonville was founded in 1833 as Drayton. However, it was renamed in 1834 after Andrew Jackson, the U.S. president. In the town are several monuments of the American Civil War, for example, a statue of the officer John Pelham. By 1899, the city of the county seat of Calhoun County was before it was moved to Anniston.
