Jacob Gade

Jacob Thune Hansen Gade ( born November 29, 1879 in Vejle, Denmark, † February 20, 1963 in Torø Huse, Assen municipality on the island of Funen ) was a Danish violinist and composer, mainly of popular orchestral music.

Today he is known almost exclusively for his play blind, which premiered on September 14, 1925 ( "Blind" double "jealousy" is also pronounced in English Jealousy and sometimes also written as or Jealousie ). The tango, written to accompany a silent film, as he presided over the orchestra of the Palads Teater, became an international hit and until now used in more than one hundred sound films, including in Death on the Nile. In many languages, texts were written for the blind. The Danish royal house Gade supported by this composition for the rest of his life, that he could devote himself entirely to composition. In 1943 he retired to the village Torø Huse on the western edge of the island of Funen, where he died in 1963.

Today, the money goes into a foundation for young musicians.
