Jacques Gruet

Jacques Gruet, also called Jacob Gruet Gruet and Jacobus († July 26, 1547 in Geneva ) was a Geneva libertine and an atheist.

Life

Gruet fought for the freedom of the individual. All laws, even those of the Church were, man-made after his view. Gruet was a critic of the Reformer John Calvin, and had struck wrote diatribes against Calvin on street corners in flat French. The immortality of the soul was nothing more than a fairy tale Gruets opinion. They found that it also critical of religion texts. Gruet died after torture therefore 1547 on the scaffold.
