Jacques Moreillon

Jacques Moreillon ( born November 16, 1939 in Vevey ) is a Swiss lawyer and political scientist. He belongs since 1988 to the International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC), for up to 1988, he worked as a member of the ICRC Directorate as a delegate in different countries and by 1975 1965-2007. From 1988 to 2004 he served as Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, an international scouting organization.

Life

Jacques Moreillon was born in 1939 in Vevey and received his doctorate for a law degree, which he completed in 1962 at the University of Lausanne, at the Geneva Graduate Institute of International Studies in Political Science. Due to the subject of his dissertation, the ratio of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC ) against political prisoners, he was from 1965, as a delegate of the ICRC in use. By 2007, he completed a total of 242 missions in 79 countries. Between 1974 and 1976 he attended as a delegate several times later South African President Nelson Mandela, who was imprisoned until 1990 as a political prisoner of the former apartheid government. According to Mandela brought about the activities of the Red Cross for the prisoners, inter alia, easing their isolation by providing access to news and contact with their families.

From 1975 to 1988 Jacques Moreillon belonged to the Directorate of the Committee on, first as director of legal and policy issues later. Than Director for General Affairs and as Director General In November 1988 he gave up his position in the ICRC Directorate and was Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement ( WOSM ). From the ICRC he was co-opted in the same year as a member. In March 2004 he retired from the office of WOSM Secretary General and went into retirement. In the 15 years of his ministry, the number of WOSM member associations increased from 120 to 155 countries and the number of them together in the Boy Scouts of 16 million to 28 million.

Jacques Moreillon was also worked for several other organizations, including, inter alia 1990-2005 as Chairman of the Board of the Geneva Centre for Applied Studies to international negotiations (Centre for Applied Studies in International Negotiations, CASIN ). He is a member of the French Legion of Honour.

Jacques Moreillon is married and the father of two sons.
