Jacques Sarr

Jacques Yandé Sarr ( born October 11, 1934 in Fadiouth; † January 18, 2011 in Dakar ) was a Senegalese minister and Roman Catholic Bishop of Thies.

Life

Sarr visited in 1948 the Minor Seminary in Ngazobil and 1951-1957 the Cours Sainte Marie de Hann - in Dakar. After studying philosophy and theology at the seminary of Sébikhoutane he received on May 28, 1964, ordained priest in Ngazobil by the Archbishop of Dakar, Hyacinthe Thiandoum. He then worked in parishes Palmarin and Thiadiaye. After a pastorate in Rufisque he studied 1966/67, Catholic social teaching at the Catholic University of Lille. Back in Dakar, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Catholic private schools.

Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of the diocese of Thies 1986. He received his episcopal consecration on March 1, 1987, the Archbishop of Dakar, Cardinal Hyacinthe Thiandoum; Théodore Adrien Sarr - were co-consecrators, Bishop of Kaolack in Senegal and later cardinal, and Joseph Dao, Bishop of Kayes in Mali. His motto was "Ma lumière et mon salut le Seigneur. " (My light and my salvation, the Lord. ).

Jacques Sarr sat down again and again for the Senegalese agriculture and stressed the importance for society and development in Senegal forth. Together with the Archbishop of Bamberg, Ludwig Schick, Sarr has launched in 2009 a diocesan partnership with the Archdiocese of Bamberg on the way.

He died after a brief illness in office 2011.
